Honeycomb Packaging Boxes: Lightweight, Heavy-Duty & Eco-Friendly Packaging
Honeycomb packaging gives heavy, bulky and fragile goods the protection of a crate at a fraction of the weight. Ficus Pax, a Bangalore-based manufacturer set up in 1999 to serve Indian exporters, makes honeycomb boxes, pallets, crates and protective pads in standard and custom sizes. Here is what the material is, what we make from it and where it works best.
What Is Honeycomb Packaging?
Honeycomb packaging is built from kraft paper layers bonded into a hexagonal cell structure, the same pattern bees use. Hexagons spread a load evenly across the board, so a thin panel carries far more than its weight suggests.
Why Choose Ficus Pax Honeycomb Packaging?
- Light boxes that still carry real load and resist impact.
- Recyclable material. Kraft paper that can be recycled, with lower weight to move.
- Custom sizing. Built to your product’s dimensions rather than the nearest standard size.
- Lower freight cost. Less packaging weight means less to pay for on every shipment.
- Wide use. Automotive, electronics, furniture and logistics all use it.

Types of Honeycomb Packaging We Make
- Honeycomb boxes. Carton-style boxes for high-strength industrial packing.
- Honeycomb box with pallet. Box and pallet as one unit for easier handling; our guide to honeycomb pallets for export packaging explains how.
- Cardboard honeycomb packaging. Light but strong, for fragile or bulky items.
- Honeycomb crates. Export-grade protection with efficient use of space. For oversized loads, see our ultra large box.
- Honeycomb pallets. Light, durable paper pallets that cut shipping weight. See our honeycomb paper pallets
Honeycomb Packaging vs Wooden Crates
Wood has long been the default for heavy goods, but it is heavy itself. Honeycomb packaging weighs far less, and because it is paper rather than wood, it falls outside ISPM 15, the international standard for treating and marking wood packaging. That removes a step for exporters.
It is not a replacement everywhere. Very heavy machinery may still travel better in a wooden crate, and we make both. Our blog on why honeycomb packaging is replacing wooden packaging sets out where the switch makes sense.
Applications of Honeycomb Packaging
- Industrial and machinery. Heavy-duty boxes for automotive and machinery parts, and crates for high-value equipment.
- E-commerce and retail. Protection for fragile items and bulk shipments, with custom branding.
- Electronics and appliances. Shock-absorbent boxes and anti-static panels for sensitive components.
- Logistics and supply chain. Light, stackable packaging that cuts storage and freight cost.
We cover these and more across the industries we serve. For worked examples, read our guide to the uses of honeycomb in the packaging industry.
Is Honeycomb Packaging Eco-Friendly?
Largely, yes. Honeycomb is made from Kraft paper that can be recycled, and its low weight cuts the fuel burned moving it. Our sustainability commitments cover how we approach materials and waste, and our article on eco-friendly honeycomb packaging goes into more detail.
Honeycomb Packaging Manufacturer in Bangalore
Our plant is at Bheemakkanahalli, Hoskote, on the edge of Bangalore, and we supply honeycomb packaging across India and for export. Exporters can also check shipping rules with the Federation of Indian Export Organisations, and anyone shipping dangerous goods should confirm packaging certification with the Indian Institute of Packaging.
Packaging standards in India come from the Bureau of Indian Standards, so ask any supplier which ones their boards meet. Honeycomb protective packaging is also made by large global producers, such as Smurfit Westrock, which shows how widely the material is trusted.
